We've just returned from 3 weeks in Italy where we rented an apartment in Vernazza to use as a home base and then made day trips and overnight trips without all of our luggage. Does anyone have a suggestion of a small town in Spain to use as a base and an apartment or a room with a fridge and stove? Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

Dee, we find our apts in Europe by using VRBO.com and Homelidays.com.
Read your Rick Steves guidebook, pick the towns that you want to use as a base, and research the available apts.
If we are going to see differnet areas, we find it easier to move to a new apart in new area, rather than taking overnight trips from a base. You can't have a good time if you spend all of your trip in transit. We stay in one location for a max of 5 days, and then move on to a new base. If it takes you more than a couple of hours to return to your base at the end of the day, you should be moving to a new location.
