Spain and Portugal

My husband and I are traveling with two other couples next May for approximately two weeks. We have zeroed in on Spain and Portugal, but I am having trouble deciding on which parts - North or South. Thinking of flying into Madrid and hopping a plane to Lisbon. after a few days there, I just can't decide which way to go. Either go south to Algarve and then to Seville and Granada, ending up in Madrid for trip home OR go north to the Douro region and into Galicia and then east to Madrid. Does anyone have some ideas for us? My husband and I might stay a few days extra at beginning or end - not sure. THANKS.

Galicia could still be cool and wet, if it matters.
If I said - why are you flying into Madrid when you could fly into Lisbon and not visit Madrid twice - would that also help?

Thanks Neil. Yes cool and wet matters. 2/3 of our party are coming from Seattle, so would want relief from the cold and wet. Flying in and out of Madrid because buying tickets with miles. Lisbon is more expensive and less available. Thinking maybe the South would be way to go, but the Douro region looks amazing.
