My husband and I are flying into Barcelona and out of Madrid this coming September. We will be there for a total of 7 nights and want to get the most out of our travel. Would you suggest staying in Spain and hitting multiple cities OR getting to either Lisbon or Marrakesh in between the two Spanish cities? There seem to be very reasonable and short flights to both Lisbon and Marrakesh, we just can't decide the best itinerary.

You may want to skip Morocco. We took it off our list for our trip in a couple of weeks. Read some of the State Dept comments and this news article:

Seven nights is only six days - barely enough for Barcelona and Madrid. I'm a big fan of Lisbon, but I'd suggest visiting Granada instead - the Alhambra is the top sight in Spain for me. I have eaten in the cafe in Marrakesh that was bombed, and it wouldn't stop me going back, but I think you're too short on time to do it justice.

You've got enough time for two cities only. Maybe, if you push it, you could slip out to Toledo for a day. I'd rob a day out of Barcelona to do it. Morocco doesn't have the political unrest that the rest of the northern tier does. One bomb can happen anywhere - - and often does. Save Morocco until you have a couple of weeks to really enjoy youself.
