Spain and France

I would like to plan a trip to Madrid, Barcelona, Provence and end up in Paris. Is this possible to do in 10 days and does someone have an itinerary for a trip like this. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

No. You need at least three days each in Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona - - at the bare stinking minimum. Provence just fell out and you can't do it justice in two weeks. Assuming you start in Madrid, you'll burn a half day getting to Barcelona, probably close to a day getting to somewhere in Provence, and a half day from Provence to Paris. That leaves eight days for actually looking around in four spots, or two per day. It just doesn't work. I'd make it either Paris and one city in Spain (even flying, you'll burn a full day for each leg) with an excursion or two from each OR four days in Paris and the balance in Provence. For France/Spain, look into flying into one city and home from the other to save time. For just France, do the same thing, but also factor in that the fast train from Paris to Avignon only takes about three hours and probably costs less than a hundred and fifty bucks.

I agree with the other poster. Really, I would do either France or Spain....more spread out than you might believe. Paris to Nice would be a good route with side trips.....Beaune, great destination for a couple of days, Vaison La Romaine, fantastic Tuesday market and the citie medieval is the place to stay. On the coast (off your track if you are going straight) the small town of Caux on the coast near Montpellier..look for Penzas on the map. Stone House B&B is Caux is the best I have ever stayed in!! You will need a car for part of this from Beaune, but it is a great drive. Save Madrid, Barcelona, and other points in Spain for a separate trip. Near Barcelona is a great castle experience - Castle de Emporda...one of the highest rated in Spain.

Vicki, slow down and smell the roses! Spend at least three days in each major city. Do France or Spain, but not both. Make sure that you factor in travel time; which will eat up one full day for these long jaunts. Yes, you can do it all in 10 days, but you would miss so much! There are lo-cost airlines that serve the areas that you are interested in (Whichbudget.com), and mcuh can also be covered by hi-speed rail.

I agree that you need to drop something, most likely Provence - or just do one country. I would say four full days is the minimum in both Madrid and Paris. For Barcelona three is o.k. Madrid has loads of great ay trips, we spent rive nights there in 2005 and wished we had a couple more nights for the city itself.
