I'm flying into Paris and plan on spending a few days there before heading to Spain. I still haven't figured out how many days I'll stay in Spain, but was wondering if you have suggestions on the best places to visit after landing in Barcelona. (I don't mean "in" Barcelona, but outside of it.) I may have to refer to Rick's book on Spain, but I prefer other traveler's suggestions. From Spain, I plan on heading back to Italy and showing friends my favorite places. By the way, does Spain have a train system like the rest of Europe? Do you recommend a train or driving?
Spain does, indeed, have a train system, including some high-speed trains. Whether it is better to drive or take the train, though, depends on where you intend to go. And don't look to the RS Spain book if you intend to see anything in northern Spain. With only a couple of exceptions, he virtually ignores the whole region. In my opinion, flying into Madrid gives you better options for day trips and better access to places like Seville, Toledo, Granada, and Cordoba.
Thanks, Nancy for the recommendations and suggestions. I'm in the making of my itinerary stages right now, so flying into Madrid is definitely do-able. Great to hear about their train system.
