Hello There is an opportunity for me to go to the southwest of Germany, more specifically Quirnbach/Pfalz. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything to do in that region. Is it possible to bike from town to town in that region? Is it close to the Rhine River? What are some great sights to see? Thank you!
Never been there - never even heard of it. But it's near a train line (Glan-Münchweiler station) that gives you access, via Landstuhl, to a very nice part of Germany to explore. The Weinstrasse or German Wine Route is nearby to the west and a popular place for biking. Lots of wineries as you might guess. There are mountainous areas in the area that offer mountainbiking trails. More info HERE. The multi-colored map on THIS PAGE shows the state of Rheinland-Pfalz. Inexpensive daypasses let you get around the whole state by train, so you could easily head east over to the Rhine (Quirnbach is near Kaiserslautern on the map, Ludwigshafen is the first Rhine train stop for you) and then north to the Middle Rhine Valley (the most scenic region - castles, villages, biking.) You can use a Rheinland-Pfalz ticket for journeys north along the Rhine or other long journeys within R-P. Details HERE. Heidelberg, the Neckar Valley and destinations to the east like Wertheim and Weikersheim are also within reach. Buy a VRN "Tageskarte" for 16€ at any station ticket machine to do a daytrip in that direction.
