southern spain and Morocco

Hi I will be travelling to southern Spain and Morocco in August also- I KNOW the weather will be deadly but my daughters sole wish is to see Morocco so I think we will have to tough it out- we only have 10 days
Meeting in Malaga and leaving from Barcelona will be either 2 or possibly 4 persons- I am looking for suggestions on safe and clean but inexpensive places to stay i Morocco , malaga and barcelona-havent flushed out the other details fo the trip yet, : ) Christine

I have heard that Fez and Marrakesh are really worthwhile- we may have only 4-5 nights max in Morocco would like at least 2 days in Barcelona and would like a few days around Seville, southern France, appreciate any suggestions

I preferred Fez to Marrakesh - the medina is much bigger and less touristy - but if you go to Marrakesh you could manage a side trip to Essaouira. Places I can recommend: Fez: www.darmasmoudi.ma/en/ Marrakesh: www.riadhasna.com - avoid the Riad Dar Silsila (long story)
Essaouira: www.lallamira.ma/en/index.html Can't recommend the cheap place I stayed in Barcelona (the Peninsula). After one night I moved, but the new place did cost rather more.

Did you take busses or taxis, what about guides? Did you book ahead or just look for places as you go?

Christine, I would skip Morroco; read this thread: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/66720/spain-morocco-and-portugaladvice-on-itinerary.html One of my wife's co-worker's just got back from Tangiers. They were in an escorted tour, and the tour guide had a heck of a time trying to fend off a group of threatening people. Marakesh is not safe either: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/30/world/africa/30morocco.html
