Southern Portugal

Hi all!
I am trying to find a good beach town in southern Portugal for my husband and I to visit in late September. The main thing I'm looking for is a really good beach! I don't want anything too crowded but not so small that there aren't any good restaurants or things to do. I looked at Salema but the hotel I wanted to stay at wasn't available the nights we are there, and the town just seemed a little too small. We are only going to be there for about two days so we won't have much time to travel around to other places. Any help is appreciated!

Albufeira. Good beach. As small or large as you want it to be. Lots of grub.

You could also try Quarteira, a bit farther east than Albufeira. It's a little smaller but also with a nice beach and lots of restaurants.

Thank you!! Albufeira looks wonderful. I think we'll end up going there.

I have a similar trip planned for the end of September. Have two days in the Algarve before going to Lisbon area for 4 days. I chose Lagos because it looks like there are good beaches nearby, and if we wanted to go to Salema or even Silves for sightseeing, we easily could. I also figured the crowds wouldn't be too bad at that time of year.

Melissa....did you find a hotel in Albufeira? We are going there in Octobrr and they all seem sooo reasonable....almost too reasonable! Any thoughts, ideas?
