Southern France

We are going to be in the South of France early June next year. First week. We would love to see the lavendar fields. With this in mind where would you recommend staying? Good base area for SF with fields in mind but not the only thing. Thanks.

You can see many wonderful things in France in early June, but alas lavender is not one of them. It doesn't bloom in time.

I find that interesting. I have read several articles talking about early June and some festivals around June 7.

I don't know much about lavender, except that I like seeing fields of it in Provence, but not in early June.

Your trip is early June. From Rick's on Provence:

"...late June to early August, when the lavender blooms."

"...during the late June to July lavender blossom...."

Lavender blooms later the higher you go (in elevation).

I don't mean to downplay the importance of Lavender but I will be going in 3 weeks and if I can remember I will let you know what I discover. For this adventure I will be staying in Vaison-la-Romaine. (See Ricks book). I have been many times south and east of here. Perhaps you should consider the area around Grasse.
