My 2 friends and I, who are all in our early 20s are looking for some advice on which cities to travel to in Southern France and Spain. We are going to be traveling between May 7-21. We are trying to hit up some beaches and have a fun time at night. We have been studying in Rome all semester so are looking into some smaller cities. Thanks for the advice.
I was in Cassis (about a half hour southeast of Marseilles by train) in October and loved it. Not sure about the night life but it's a very picturesque town with a nice little beach. The best part is that it is close to where you start off on hikes to the calanques which are like fjords with steep limestone cliffs dropping down to the Mediterranean. If you're not into hiking there are boats that can take you to them. More information in Rick Steves' Provence book.
Check out Montpelier, the university town in Languedoc. Beaches are nearby and I imagine the nightlife is good.
