Southern Coast of Spain- Suggestions???

Heres the deal: I am spending one Thursday night in Madrid on the 29th of May, then can do as I please, where I please, before I must arrive in Granada by the evening of Sunday, June 1st.

Anyways, that doesn't really matter. I basically have 2-3ish days to go where I want in Andalucia. What coastal (and by coastal I mean beach front) city/town would you suggest? I want to be at the beach to unwind during the day, but want to do stuff interesting at night or during the day if it is cloudy. Art museums, interesting places, castles, historical sites, free daily/nightly flamenco shows etc etc...The more touristic/holiday cities I'd like to avoid if possible. Shopping I can do without as well.

I was looking at Tarifa, but there really isn't anything special there aside from amazing beaches. Málaga is considered, although I've heard mixed reviews and it seems a but touristy. Almeria is definitely a possibility, and so is Cádiz but I don't really know much about either. So any input/experience in any places similar to these??

Thanks
Natalio

For most of us RS regulars, the answer is obvious. Nerja is on the Med, great beaches, a quaint small town, good hotels and restaurants, and finally only about 1 1/2 hour by car from Grenada. As one who visited the Costa del Sol and the Costa Brava back in the 60's I can truly say that Nerja is the closest to that experience.

IMO Jerez de la Frontera and Cadiz (which is just a ferry boat ride across a bay) are the two cities most worthwhile in that area. From Jerez it's also just an hour to Seville with its great cathedral. In Cadiz don't miss to visit the Camera Obscura and the great beach. Jerez is the most Arab looking town in Europe.
