Planning a trip to the south of France and Barcelona. Looking for a small town to rent a place in either Landoc or Provence for a week and then go on to Barcelona. Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

Hi Martin, We stayed in Cassis, which is just east of Marseille - not sure if that is too far east for you but we loved it. We drove out to Nimes and Avignon and loved them as well... I'm not too sure you can go wrong in that area. To be totally honest I based where we went on which rental accommodation I liked the best as I couldn't decide on the town! Also loved Barcelona, although we only stayed there for 3 nights before moving north to San Sebastian (loved it there too!).

I loved Cassis, but it is a little out of the way for a one week stay if you plan to do day trips. Will you have a car? I stayed in Arles and found it convenient to do day trips.

As much as I enjoyed Cassis and would encourage you to do a day trip there, I would pick a more central location.
