South of France

Hello! I'm thinking of going to the south of France on my next trip. I was reading about the beaches and that some of them are private. Any suggestions for good places?
Thanks!

RS has a tour of the south of France (starting in Paris) that I took a couple of years ago. You should go to the "Tours" section of this web site and look for that tour to see what he thinks is important for his tour members to see and dol

You live in Destin and you want to go to the beach in the south of France? Personally I would consider spending my time doing things I couldn't do at home. No beach there will compare to Destin. Just my opinion...

The Cote d'Azur is absolutely beautiful. It is different than Destin/FL beaches, in that there isn't a lot of soft sand (it's pretty rocky down there). I know a lot of people like Nice, but I'm not a big fan. I love Cannes, and have spent two weeks in the low-rent district of Cannes LaBocca (better beaches/less crowded). Juan-les-pins also has better beaches than Nice IMO. Wherever you stay, make sure you are close to a train station and/or bus stop. It's pretty easy to explore the area (Monaco is totally worth a full day!)

Well... I wasn't asking for info about Destin or if I should go or not go to a beach anywhere else. I was asking about France since I'm going to be in that area anyway. Thank you Dina for the tips. It's nice to hear from a local. Is Monaco that close for a day trip? Not being from there I don't have a sense of how far apart places / travel are from each other. I will check out your other suggestions. Actually I have found many beaches in the world just as nice or better than Destin. Unless anyone saw the dunes and beaches here in the 80s you'll have NO idea the beauty that was here before it became condo city. For all intents and purposes Destin beaches are all pretty much private with no access for locals or parking. And if that oil doesn't stop coming ashore or gosh forbid a hurricane brings in the rest then it's toast!
