South of France

Flying into Carcassonne staying a night and then on to Arles -the last week of May. Is the lavendar in bloom? Also any suggestions on the small towns around Arles and Avignon. I read Rick's book but wanted more feedback. Thanks!

As Bets said, you're a bit early for the lavendar. We visited a Cisterician Monastery in May in the luberon, and we could see all of the rows of dormant lavendar leading up to the building, and our imagination filled in nicely, but it was pretty brown. Still great, though.
Make sure to visit Pont du Gard while you're in the area. You'll need a car, and take a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the shore. One of our best days in the South of France.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid we would be a bit earlier for the lavender. Thanks for the tip on Pont du Gard!
