My question heading had a typo. I meant, where would be a good one night stop between Venice and Munich. Ruette, Garmish, other?
How are you traveling: car, train, hiking?
Ed, she's driving (see previous post).
Are you trying to avoid staying in Munich or wanting to break up the trip into two segments? If the latter, someplace south of Brenner Pass, like in No. Italy (Alto Adige) would make more sense.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is only about an hour and a half from Munich, but on a logical route. Reutte is out of the way and, in my opinion, not worth seeing.
Since this isn't a long trip I would suggest an overnight stop in the Val Gardena - Ortisei for example. The turnoff is between Bolsano and Bressanona - about halfway and you will enjoy some spectacular mountain scenery.
Seems like it's only a five hour trip or so, no real need to break it, but if it were I, the stop would be in Innsbruck just to ride the gondola on the north side of town.
Stop in the dolomites, it is beautiful. And you will want to go back someday.
