I will be traveling solo for the first time to Barcelona, Spain. Do you know of any safe and centrally located hotels?
This hotel appears to have changed hands since I stayed there last year, but it's only from one hotel chain to another, so probably the quality is still there.
The hotel is in a nice neighborhood in central Barcelona and a single room will usually cost you less than 100 Euros a night (will depend on the time of year).
The Hotel has a nice buffet breakfast that is not included in the room price -- unless you commit to having breakfast each day, for which there is a discount.
Booking online directly with the hotel is definitely cheaper.
elizabeth,
Given your location, you might find it very helpful to take a short trip to Edmonds and use the Library at ETBD (specifically the Spain 2009 Guidebook). There are listings there for Hotels in various price ranges and in various parts of the city (these are shown on a small Map). That way you'll have the information you need to make an informed choice, and also to speak with the helpful folks at ETBD.
Especially for Barcelona, be sure you're wearing a Money Belt!
Happy travels!
I usually recommend the Marina View B&B (www.marinaviewbcn.com) Right at the end of the Ramblas, friendly and clean. Price runs roughly €100/night.
I'll be going to Barcelona for the first time in late October and plan to stay at a hostel. I go to Europe at least once or twice a year, usually solo, and stay in hostels. I've always felt safe and it's nice b/c you can meet others to visit w/at the hostel or do things elsewhere if there are like minded people. I use www.hostelworld.com b/c you can read reviews, book w/minimal deposits, etc. I'm mid-fifties and feel comfortable staying at hostels. Hope you'll try it as well! Have fun!
