I will be travelling solo to Dresden for a week in late October. Any suggestions for safe, interesting day trips?
I'm already planning on Prague. Anything else reccommended?
Lee, in case you haven't yet seen it, here is a link to the Dresden website in English. http://www.dresden.de/index_en.php
For a day trip, you could visit the small city of Meissen of porcelain (china) manufacturing fame. Their new website is www.meissen.de. At the bottom of the page is a forwarding message in English to their old website, which has info on the porcelain museum. There are boat tours on the Elbe river but I don't know if they still run in late October.
You can take the Dresden S-bahn line down into Saxon Switzerland. There's a national park down there with great hiking (and a beer and brat stand in the middle of the trail), the Bastei, and a neat fortress in Königstein.
You could do a daytrip to Leipzig and maybe check the schedule for concerts at the Thomaskirche for that. Events are held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday:

If you have an interest in it you could also spend some time tracing Martin Luther's footsteps. Rick Steves did a special on this:
