Solo in Europe for New Year's Eve

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions please. I was going to Europe with a friend between Christmas and New Year's Eve but they have had to cancel. I still want to go and need suggestions for a lively place to ring in the New Year. I've travelled quite a bit and know I should stick to big cities. I was in Barcelona last year and it was a bit quiet - looked on tv like Madrid would have been better. I hear Berlin is a huge party but don't really love Germany. I'd like to get back to Lisbon but this may not be the trip for it. Any suggestions for a single gal?

Thank you :-)

This New Years? Paris and London are both on several lists for "Best New Years Eve" . But maybe narrow your options by price and hotel availability since it is getting close.

Have you traveled in Germany enough (or at all) to be able to say you don't love it here? The NYE party in Berlin is the best one around, so maybe give it a try?

Otherwise, go on to Lisbon if this is a place you want to visit. How important to your travel plans is a big party on NYE? This would be way down on my own priority list. Though fun, it isn't what I would base my vacation on. If it is important to you, then go where the best party is. Again, Berlin would be the place to be.

Berlin isn't really Germany, though. ;)

My expat friends who enjoy big celebrations are going to Edinborugh, Amsterdam, and Berlin. I am allergic to giant crowds so I'm going to stay here in Stuttgart. Any large city in Germany will be extremely lively on NYE, though - Germans go absolutely nuts setting off fireworks in public areas.

Oh, forgot about Edinburgh. That is another excellent party. Thanks Sarah! I wouldn't mind going to that one either.

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is for this year. I'm used to last minute travel based on my work / job. Leaning towards Madrid or Paris but had forgotten Edinburgh. I've been to Germany 5 times and lost count how many times I've been to London. I'm not looking for a huge party just maybe some live music or a street market / fair. I like being outside and wandering the city but appreciate having something going on.
