Snow/Ski Clothing Rent

Hi all, I'm going to Nice in March, and I read that there is a ski place nearby (Isola 2000). I also know that there will be several ski shops in that place. I have never experience snow in my life. And this will be my first time going to a snowy place. I will probably try skiing, but at least I want to enjoy the snow :) I won't, however, bring any clothes specifically for snow/winter. I only will bring normal jacket, sneaker/tennis shoes, cardigan. So, will the ski shops provide rent for ski clothes (like snow jacket, snow shoes)? Thanks!

i am not sure if the ski stores there do rent clothes but most resort alps towns do, i would simply email a few of the stores and if they do not rent clothes ask them to recommend someplaces that do

Conor, thanks for the reply and suggestion. In that case, is it okay for me to not wearing the ski/winter clothes on my way to the alps? Or is it going to be too cold even on my way before arriving to the ski shops to get the clothes?

You should be fine on the way up. After all, skiers staying in these towns go out to restaurants and bars at night in regular (though warm) clothes. Many ski rental shops DO rental jackets and pants, though it might be a good idea to email either the resort, or the Tourist Information center, to find out which shops do this.

Don't forget about other clothing items such as socks, gloves, scarf, goggles, that you might want to use while skiing. Also ask whether they sell cat crap or you may want to bring it with you. Edwin PS- If you ski you will know what cat crap is.

Ed, I have skied for 48 years all over the West and some midwestern slopes and have never heard of cat crap. Must be something common to the eastern ski resorts.

Neither have I, but then again, English is not my native language. And as Stewart has never experienced snow in his life, I can imagine he has not have a clue what you are talking about either. Stewart, what 'normal' jacket do you have? I use my skiing jacket in normal life as well. For the rest, renting may be an option, as I can imagine you would like to travel light. You may want to bring/purchase items like socks, etc. though!

Another western skier that's never heard of cat crap...also it's not clear that Stewart will actually ski, so he may not not need goggles and such. (Actually sunglasses should be just fine, unless it's really snowing). But gloves or mittens he should ask about.

Stewart, not to "rain on your parade", but I don't think that you will find much snow for skiing....except maybe up high on some ice fields. My buddy in Germany is bummed out 'cause there is hardly any snow. (Except the ice fields, which the Europeans think are "just fine".) But, if you have never seen snow, even the ice fields will be a fun place for you! Have a great trip!
