Hi, Can we buy the SNCF train tickets to visit Giverny (Monet Garden) at any metro station? Or is it only sold at Gare St. Lazare station? If buying the SNCF train tickets online at http://www.voyages-sncf.com/, can we use this ticket to board at our nearest metro station? or do we require to buy a separate regular metro ticket to get to Gare St. Lazare station? And is it that we still need to exchange our online train ticket at the train station to the actual train ticket? thanks!
Jenny
You can buy your tickets at any SNCF station, but not at Metro stations. They will not be good on the Metro or RER. If you book e-tickets online, you won't have to exchange them for standard tickets.
SNCF is separate from ratp (paris metro) just like Amtrak is separate from KingCounty (assuming you are from seattle you would know what that is) IF you buy the SNCF tickets online, if you have an option to print ticket at home (sometimes you do when you choose UK as your origin). you do not need to exchange for an actual ticket. If your only option is for them to mail you the ticket or pick up at an automated booth, you would need to print out your confirmation and pick them up at any SNCF Train station (not metro stops.) If you do pick up the actual tickets, make sure you validate them at the tiny yellow machines before you board the train. the machine looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9709151@N04/2731213839/ not my picture, but you get the idea.
The nearest station is Vernon. There is no train as far as Giverny.
