At the risk of sounding like a whiny American, I am curious to find out if anyone has been to Austria lately, and found smoking to be an issue? My husband and I travel with our teenagers frequently to Europe, but am frankly worried that the smokers will get the best of us in Austria - in the winter...(no outdoor dining!) Any thoughts?
I was in Austria last August (Hallstatt, Hall, Innsbruck) and I never notice smokers around me (and I usually do). I don't know if I was just lucky or if there are now laws.
great news- thanks!
I have noticed a couple threads on this in TripAdvisor:

Go to the forum and search on "Smoking". You will see threads are recent as last fall lamenting about smoking in public places. There are some local posters there who are able to bring things up to date if you ask a question.
