We shall be in the Southwest region of France in mid-May next year and were hoping to spend 3 nights somewhere between Bordeaux and Bergerac, preferably along the Dordogne river. I'm hoping for a mix of the green, rolling hills of the Dordogne Valley further to the east, but handy to the vineyards of Bordeaux/Bergerac. So, I'm looking for a recommendation for a small inn, B&B or gîte that would run us under 100 euros/night. Thanks!
We were going to stay at this place last fall, but changed our itinerary. From the website we thought it looked great. We got it from Karen Brown's guidebook. http://www.chateau-carbonneau.com/EN/
Probably too far east (literally just outside Sarlat), but we LOVED the restored barn/stables Les Granges Hautes. It was intimate, utterly charming, peaceful, near Sarlat, Beynac, Rocamadour, Les Eyzies and so much more! Runs 72-98 euros/night plus breakfast. www.les-granges-hautes.fr/en/index.htm
Tom, thank you so much for the recommendation - Chateau Carbonneau looks very nice and is smack in the area that I'm considering. Loretta, thanks for the suggestion - but we have explored that area quite thoroughly already. Anywhere near Sarlat is definitely too far east! I personally prefer Le Chèvrefeuille B&B in that corner of the Dordogne Valley:
