We really enjoy canoeing or rowing opportunities to explore an area. Does anyone know of good boating areas, with boat rentals, in Germany, or good beach areas to visit? We're planning a Sept. trip. Thanks!

I know where you can rent canoes, but its probably not in an area where you would plan to visit. In the town of Lampertheim just north of Mannheim, you can rent a canoe on the Altrhein, which is slow moving tributary of the Rhine river. I don't know the specifics, but I've seen several pictures of people boating on the Reissersee and Erbsee near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

I'm a big fan of "E-Boots", small electric boats that I first tried on the Chiemsee, and will be doing more e-booting on the Hallstattersee. There were rowboats or canoes for rent on the Koenigsee near Berchtesgaden when I was there last year, in May. The lake is breath-takingly beautiful, very calm, but I had a shoulder injury and couldn't do the rowing.

What part of Germany will you be in? If you will be in the Black Forest, you can rent boats at Lake Titisee. Lake Constance (aka Bodensee) probably has some good beaches and possibly some boat rentals.

There are some cute little resorts that rent boats on Chiemsee between Munich and Salzburg. The Bodensee/Lake Constance is also good.
