Slide in Salzburg Austria

Hello Everyone, I am travelling to Austria in a few weeks and I was watching Rick Steves show and he was in Salzberg riding on some metal slide. Does anyone know where this slide is located and what the name of it is? Thanks,
Jennifer

I also have ridden the luge near Mondsee during a Sound of Music tour and highly recommend it. Rick's Austria book has some information on the location of luges and ones that are accessible by bus. Mondsee is absolutely beautiful, and I highly recommend a visit there if at all possible.

Not exactly sure which one was shown but what you are looking for is a "luge ridge". There are several throughout Austria and Bavaria. We did the one in the Wolfgansee area before our daytrip to Salzburg. It was lots of fun!

Thanks for replying. Do you happen to have directions to these luge rides? We are travelling by train. We do not have a vehicle so I'm looking for public transportation routes.

The luge in Mondsee is a bit in the country. I think you will need to take a tour or drive a car to get there.

www.panoramatours.com offer many different kinds of tours. We used them for our Sound of Music tour last fall. Give them a ring or e-mail them and let them know what you're looking for, I'm sure they can help you.

We have done two different luge rides ~ the one others have mentioned near Salzburg was experienced on the Sound of Music Tour ~ however, I have been on the S.O.M. tour 4 times through the last 10 years and only once did they stop at the luge on their own, another trip we had to request it, but it was closed due to sprinkling of rain and the other tours declined to stop at it. As others have said, it is out in the country a distance. However, you are probably going to Fuessen to see Neuschwanstein Castle and there is a fun luge there ~ my kids loved biking to it, my friend and I took the local bus ~ it can easily be done the afternoon after the two castles. We had it all to ourselves (7 of us) and had a great time! Just don't depend on definitely being able to do it on the S.O.M. tour ~ some of my groups were disappointed by not getting to do that.

I went on the luge ride last year while on the SOM tour, which we stopped at on the way to Mondsee. It was the smaller tour company that includes a person's name (sorry, can't remember, but there are only 2 SOM tour groups I think, so this should help) - group size of around 4-10 people.
