Sleeping:Paris/Wengen/Fuessen/Salzburg/Venice

Yikes! I haven't been to Europe for 4 1/2 years and am finding accommodations MUCH pricier! Any great suggestions on places to sleep in Pars, Wengen, Fuessen, Salzburg, or Venice?? Thanks for taking the time to reply!! ; )

Yikes, is right. With the Swiss franc hovering around $1.20 we are priced right out of our favorite country. The place we really liked in Wengen is the Bären. Very moderately priced. It is not a full-service hotel, more like a restaurant (a very good one) with a few rooms upstairs. They are basic but clean, and some have balconies. The food is fantastic---the best breakfast around, and a modern, upscale menu at dinner. Half-board is a bargain.

I've stayed in Pfronten, ½ hr bus ride to Füssen, for €28,80 with kurtax, also in Oberammergau, just over an hour by bus from Hohenschwangau, €28-35, and in Freilassing, Germany, just over the river from Salzburg, eight min (I think) from Salzburg Hbf, for €35. All included breakfast. Can't help you with Paris, Wengen, or Venice.

In Salzburg you might consider Hotel Weiss Taube, a RS recommended property. Located just off the square in Old Town. Breakfast was good, we would stay there again!

Weisse Taube, DZ €98-124 (low season)! I thought he wanted to save money.

In Salzburg, we stayed at a zimmer, Haus Ballwein, on Moosestrasse (recommended by Rick Steves). Very reasonably priced, with a buffet breakfast and a 15 minute bus ride into the city.

Thanks all! Actually, Salzburg is the only place that I do have an affordable/close place: St. Sebastian Institut (RS recommended) has housed us twice before, and will be again this time ~ hard to beat it! The other spots are the ones that are challenging at the moment.

I stayed at Hotel Tivoli in Venice last fall. It was a return stay. A generous breakfast was included; rates were very reasonable. Try www.venere.com if you are still looking. In Paris, I like to stay at Hotel du Turenne. It is in the 7th, near rue Cler. Rates are reasonable and there is a generous ground level breakfast room which is open all day.
