Sleeping Paris

Another couple and my husband and I will be traveling Europe this summer. We are looking at apartments to stay in while we are there. My question is this: What area's in Paris should we not be staying in due to safety issues?

All of Paris is extremely safe (1st through the 20th arrondissement). My top choice would be the 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissement.

To keep our costs down, we stayed at the top of the 15th. We got a quiet one bedroom, with not too many stairs(be careful about this!) in a wonderful neighborhood, near shops and restaurants, etc. It only cost us $90 EU/nite. We were within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower, were one block away from one Metro stop, and three from another. That is important; the Metro can wisk you anywhere in Paris, so your location is really not a deal breaker. We usually rent from VRBO, but this time we found our apartment using Homelidays.com.
