Sleeping outdoors along the Camino?

Any tips on this? I'm going April/May so am prepared for cooler weather, just thinkingj if I don't make it to the next bed in time or if the long awaited hostel is full or???

Wendy, suggest you check out a few other forums for this info, Thorntree( Lonely Planet) and tripadvisor.com ,, you may find a few more people there who have actually done the trail.

Send a private message to Barry in San Diego who posts here. I believe he has actually walked the whole thing and he's mentioned some other forums that are devoted to giving advice to people who want to walk the Camino. My friend walked it last May/June. She never had any problems with not finding an available spot in a hostel thus forcing her to sleep outside. Her biggest problems were blisters and bed bug bites. I cringed when I saw her photos where she had thread sewn through the big blisters on the soles of her feet to keep them drained. Get yourself a stick of Body Glide to apply to your feet to avoid hot spots forming in the first place, buy the best dual layer socks you can get at REI to reduce friction (or get liners that go under your socks). Take care of your feet from the start by getting the right stuff before your trip to cut down on problems and you will have an easier time getting to the next hostel.
