After searching the 2008 book and the helpline, I'm not finding any recommendations for this area. Have any of you stayed between the Opera House and the Champs Elysees?

I'm not sure if this is the location that you're looking for but several years ago I stayed at Hotel Galileo Paris
The rooms were small but the location is great!

Last year we stayed at the Hotel Antin-Trinite on rue de Provence, which is about 2 blocks from the Garnier Opera, right behind the big department stores on Ave. Haussmann. We found it very central to Metro and RER lines, Monoprix (for those tasty bottles of good French wines, cheeses and plentiful foodie gifts), shopping (Galeries Lafayette and Printemps) and restaurants. The area is pretty dead at night (once the stores clos) but we felt very safe in the area. As a matter of fact, we'll be returning to this hotel again in September. The only drawback I can see is that there's no air conditioning, but our room had a fan and we found that sufficient when we were there last July.
