I was given the name of a hotel over the train station at the airport in Frankfurt but don't remember the name. Can't find my original question on this helpline so thought I'd ask again. Does anyone know the name? It's fairly expensive but great for an early departure the following day. Thanks.
The Hilton has 2 hotels right over the long distance train station. The Sheraton is practically next to it. The Steigenberger is near-by and you could take their shuttle to the airport. Hotels in Frankfurt, near the train station are also just 11 minutes away by S-bahn, so if you want a cheaper option than staying out at the airport, and the chance to see a bit of Frankfurt too, I think I would stay in town. Check out the Excelsior, Hotel Monopol, Holiday Inn Express or City Line. The trains start running at 04:15 in the morning. Use the RMV website to find times. It switches into English. http://www.rmv.de/
Three times in the last 25 years I've had an early morning departure out of FRA. The first time I found the hotels at the airport and in Frankfurt to be more expensive than I wanted to pay. I found a place on Schottstrasse, in Mainz, right across the Bahnhofsplatz from the main station, a short walk to the S-Bahn into the airport. The train ride is a bit longer than the trip from Frankfurt Hbf, but it's right across from the station and the price was good. The second time I was there, I walked past Hotel Königshof on my way to the station and thought it looked nicer than the other place. When I got home, I looked it up on the Internet, and I stayed there the last time, in 2008. I would recommend it.
Well, if you book far enough ahead, you can get the Hotel Excelsior for 10 euro cheaper than the Koenigshof in Mainz. It pays to look around a little bit rather than stay at the same old place time after time.
