Sleeping in Munich during Oktoberfest

I have waited until the last minute. Any suggestions for sleeping outside of Munich or on the outskirts?

Three years ago, I spent the last Saturday night of Oktoberfest at Augsburger-hof (www.stadthotel-landsberg.de) in Landsberg am Lech. Landsberg is less than an hour away from Munich by train, and they didn't raise their rates for Oktoberfest. Landsberg is a delightful town, worth visiting for itself.

Julie, where are you before and after Oktoberfest? If you're anywhere close, you could just stay an extra day there.........The last time we were in Salzburg, we just 'trained in' to Oktoberfest for the day. Depending on the train, it's 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way. No moving around from hotel to hotel...Now if you're coming from Madrid, perhaps this won't work so well...;-)

Hi Julie. I stayed at Hotel Mayer in Germering. It was a short train ride into Munich, and the hotel was guite nice.

Julie: If the accomodations that you're seeking are all booked because of the Oktoberfest, then I would suggest staying west of Munich ie., in Augsburg. It's a historical town and close enough by train and frequent.

Julie, try this: www.seibel-hotels-munich.de There are always cancellations. I booked a room at their hotel right next to the festival grounds two weeks before we left. They have a location in West Munich that is very nice. You can get to the center by S-Bahn and a short bus ride. I think there might be a tram nearby too? Good luck.
