Sleeping in Madrid - SUGGESTIONS

I'm looking for a cheap place to rest my head somewhat "near" the airport. I realize the airport is 10+ miles from downtown. Any suggestions? We are arriving in Madrid (from US) and spending 3 weeks in Europe. We'll be flying back to Madrid, arriving around 10pm, and need to catch our flight back to the US the next morning around 9:30am. So obviously I don't plan to see any more of Madrid than I need to (we're spending a few days there at the start of our trip).

Try the hotel Melia Barajas(sp.)? You should be able to get a room now forthe middle of May but hurry. Google Barajas hotels all of them should be close and offer shuttles.

Lodgings near the airport tend to cater to business travelers so the prices are usually pretty high. There are a few exceptions, however. Take a look at Hostal Los Coronales, Hostal Aeropuerto, and Hostal Villa de Madrid. Keep in mind the above are "budget hotels" or "hostales" so they'll be cheaper than hotels but also have fewer services. I don't think any of them offer a shuttle to/from the airport like many of the airport-area hotels do so you'll have to add that to your budget considerations. Also, the locations of these are nowhere close to a metro station so you'll have to either take a taxi to the airport to get the cheap metro/bus (2€) or to taxi into the city itself - which could cost 25-35 Euros. Saludos, MadridMan @ you-know-where!

Not sure of any location which will fill your needs. Most places that you need will be closer, and in, the city proper. Madrid Man, who posted above me has a great site, www.madridman.com with information about Madrid, and the places he mentions are most likely the best choices. I had friends who stayed at the Hilton near the airport a couple of years ago, shuttle service, etc., and recommended it for the location and convenience.

Try using Google maps. Search Madrid airport, then whats around here. Mouse over the locations 'til you find something that works.
