Sleeping in Lyon

Would anyone have a suggestion for a hotel in Lyon? Simple, small, clean, family run would be great .. also not sure which part of the city is 'cooler'! Old Lyon looks neat ..
Thanks for the help!!

Hi Joanne,
My husband and I were in Lyon for 4 nights in January and really enjoyed our stay there! We stayed in Hotel la Residence--it's not "simple, small...and family run" but we had a large, very clean room with a big shiny bathroom. It was 81 Euro per night, on a pedestrian street, had WIFI available and close enough to walk to the Perrache train station. It was a short walk to Vieux Lyon--I saw more restaurants in the old part of town but not so many hotels that I remember. Another hotel that we noticed that looked more like the one that you described is Hotel des Celetins (both hotels are in Rick's France guide.)

Make sure that you go to the market along the Saone River--especially the Sunday market with art and crafts. We also enjoyed the Gallo-Roman museum.

The food in Lyon was fantastic--we had a great meal in Vieux Lyon at a funky restaurant called la Nef des Fous. Have a great trip!

Joanne,
I will speak to my friends who live just outside of Lyon for a recommendation for what you are looking for in terms of a hotel, and get back to you about this topic.

You will love ''la ville de gueule'', (the city of the palate): great food, great history, great people!

Happy anticipation!

We stayed at the Hotel des Celestins last July and were totally satisfied. Nice staff, excellent breakfast in the clean breakfast room, air consitioning. The location is extremely convenient to both the bridges to Vielle Lyon (2 blocks) and Presque Isle.
