Sleeping in Colmar, France

The $$ hotels in Colmar are full on June 2. I hate to pay the price of the $$$ listed in RS FRANCE Guide. Has anyone stayed in another gasthaus or local B&B near the center?
I would also stay in Eguishiem. Any recommendations from someone who has stayed for a night?

Jana, Which "$$ Hotels" have you tried so far? I would highly recommend Hotel Le Rapp (if your budget will allow). I really enjoyed my stay in Colmar, and had a great time wandering about in the evenings watching the street musicians, and some of the restaurants are fantastic. Good luck and happy travels!

Here's a second vote for Maison Jund. Very clean, internet access, and a downright cozy feel. Think fairytale cottage, and that's kind of how your stay will be. A fairytale with really good wine, that is. I'll stay there everytime that I visit Colmar.

We stayed at the Maison Martin Jund in 2010 and had a great time. It's not the fanciest place, but I would stay there again. Thier wine is pretty good too!

I was hoping for Maison Martin Jund because of the offbeat description and the cost but, unfortunately, they had no availability. So I checked into Hotel le Rapp and found there is a junior suite and a DB right next to it. So our young adult kids will stay in the suite and my husband and I will get some breathing room next door.
From RS and your description I think we've found a good spot...and right i the middle of things which will be especially great if our kids want to stay out longer than we do. thanks for your feedback.

Jana, As you'll be travelling in June, I'd suggest booking SOON! Be sure to visit the Unterlinden. Hope you have a great time in Colmar!!!

we enjoyed Chez Leslie b&b. Leslie is an American ex-pat who has lived in Europe for years. She is a wealth of travel information and freely answered our questions about restaurants, recommended sites, public transit, etc. Her husband welcomed us with cold beer. Colmar is a rather small town and very walkable. Chez Leslie is about 2 blocks from the train station on the more residential side away from town center. We easily found free parking on the street in front of the b&b. Walking to town center is a quick, safe, easy walk through the train station. Obviously, if you are traveling by rail, this is a very convenient location. Write if you have specific questions.

Another vote for Chez Leslie if she has room. Our stay there in 2009 was very pleasant.

Just looked at Chez Leslie B&B but by June 2 she is only taking stays of two nights or more. And that doesn't fit our itinerary. Disappointing after hearing two of you give the thumbs up. The price was much better than Hotel le Rapp. It's not too late for me to look into another B&B within the city of Colmar that is in the central location of the city.
Any other suggetions of a B&B with reasonable rates and a good breakfast? With two adults and three young adult kids!

We stayed at Madame Bomgenders B&B 2 years ago, (sp?) in Eguisheim, great hope to go back again, some rooms are without bathroom, but she provides bath robes and the distance to the bathrooms (each your own) is probably less then what you have now. Easy parking nice restaurants cute little town at the end of busy day
