Sleeping in Barcelona

My wife and I (both over 70)are going to stay in Barcelona at the end of July, prior to our cruise. Rick recommends Hotel Continental Barcelona among others with "personality" on or near the Ramblas. His description looks very appealing. Has anyone stayed there? What's the opinion? Any other recommendations?

After a fairly bad experience, I(also over 70) don't trust RS's hotel recommendations. There are 176 reviews of that hotel on Tripadvisor, and they range from excellent to terrible. That's way more feedback than you will get on this site. I usually look at the substance of the unfavorable ones. Reservation mixups happen, but complaints about dirt, bad food, or thin walls send me looking for alternate lodgings. Why don't you check out TA and draw your own conclusions?

Hotel La Cathederal, a block or so from Las Ramblas, just off the square at the cathederal...convenient, well maintained, new, a great place...I was there a couple of years ago and enjoyed it.

Hi - There are many excellent Hotels in Barcelona - My personal favorite is -
http://www.royalramblashotel.com/en/
Located Directly on Las Ramblas it is an excellent Hotel - Just a couple of hundred yards from Europe's number one Fruit, Meat, and vegetable Market - La Boqueria - A Nice walk down Las Ramblas to The Old Port, where you can pick up an open air bus that will allow you to see the highlights of a Fabulous City, getting off and back on as often as you like. I would positively suggest, at least, a couple of days in Barcelona!!

I have stayed there with my partner and we very much enjoyed it, though we are in our twenties! It does have "personality" and the free all day breakfast buffet was really helpful. We had a balcony room which was great but it was noisy with street performers all night (we were up anyway so it didn't matter).
