Don't have my Europe through the back door book yet. and trying to finalize my trip. I have been suggested to try B&B Batavia. any other good suggestions for a clean, quiet and reasonable place to stay.
It seems to me that organizing all the accommodation and then reading the book how to do it is a bit backwards. Perhaps have a read and then plan?
For a unique Dutch experience in Amsterdam, rent a houseboat on one of the canals. I'd highly recommend www.Houseboat-rental-Amsterdam.com/Karin's-houseboat. You won't be disappointed and Karin is the nices person to work with. Have a great trip!
Reasonable in Amsterdam is relative - it's an expensive city. For clean and quiet (and relatively reasonable) I can recommend the Quentin Arrive Hotel (they require a 3-night minimum stay; request a room not on busy Haarlemmerstraat if you want quiet). I've also stayed at Frederic's Parents' Place, one of the properties owned by Frederic Rent-A-Bike and recommended by Rick Steves. Both of these properties are in the Jordaan neighborhood, my favorite, and a 5- and 10-minute walk from Centraal Station, respectively.
