We'll be traveling the Romantic Road (or UnRomantic...never have understood why people are saying that) and don't want to drive all the way to Rothenberg since we would have departed from Salzburg that morning. Anyone know a farm stay or pension on the Romantic Road? Maybe n of Dachau? We do not plan to stay in Munich so I'm looking for a great sleep north of the city.Thanks.
Hi Jana, Can't help with staying overnight, but I wanted to mention that Munich to Rothenburg is just 2 hours or so. Salzburg to Rothenburg, a little more than 4 hours. Concerning the Romatic Road, you'll see what people mean if you decide to drive it all. It's not a bad road, just an ordinary 2 lane road with a few very nice old towns along it. Without the few old towns, no one would bother to go out of their way to drive along it.

Well, I am one of the few who love driving and I found the road to be quite romantic (as least as romantic as a road can be) One time the farm fields were filled with a bright yellow crop (someone told me it was Canola) and it had this amazing fragrance, and driving it at sunset there was an amazing golden glow to the whole area. Last November when I drove from Salzburg to Rothenberg all the trees were covered in this incredible white mist (not snow, and sort of like frost) but there was none on the ground, so the trees were bright white and the grass was green. We stopped a half a dozen times to take photos before it disappeared. Even though it is really close to Rothenberg I have stayed in Dinkelsbuhl a few times and found it charming and much less busy than Rothenberg. Enjoy your trip... take along a picnic and enjoy the Romantic Road!
