Skiing in the Alps?

I've decided to take a ski trip to the Alps this winter and I was hoping for suggestions. I think I definately want to end my trip in Chamonix, but will have time for one or two other destinations. Where else should I go? Zermat? Jungfrau? Dolomites? Tirolian Alps? Somewhere I haven't considered? Thanks in advance!

It depends on what you're looking for: In France skiing means on high-way type runs in the mountains with pretty much no on-slopes parties or apres-ski parties. In Switzerland there's limited partying and the reason for the majority of Europeans to prefer Austria for skiing is because of the great combination of excellent resorts, great mountains, runs and plenty of partying on the mountains as well as in the villages right after the mountains close. The sames goes for the Dolomites as they're culturally Austria... Look at Sölden in Tyrol, Ischgl (the Ibiza of the Alps) or St. Anton or Lech on Mt. Arlberg in the Western Austrian state of Vorarlberg. If you're in your 20s or 30s also consider Saalbach and Hinterglemm in the Salzburg lake district, if you're in your 40s and 50s you'd probably prefer Zell am See, also in the Salzburg lake district. If you prefer skiing in the Swiss Jungfrau region consider Wengen as base. It's got the best location for skiing. In the French part of Switerland Verbier/Nendaz are probably the most challenging resort. If you like it American have a look at Avoriaz in France. Also Lac de Tignes is a great artificial resort. In the French Alps you can get great rooms and condos thru Pierre & Vacances. What I don't like about Chamonix is that you always need to take a bus or car to get to the lifts. In all of the other resorts I mentioned you can ski right from your B&B/hotel/hostel/apartment or the lifts are a very short walk away.

You'll find lots of info on a ski message board, like the Eurozone forum at epicski.com.

I have been to Solden, Austria--skiing is fabulous--and the apre ski is amazing. Been to Selva and Arabba in the Sella Ronda region (Dolomites)--good skiing , superb food incredibly beautiful. Been to Zermatt-- Skiing and scenery are great. For partying--Austria. Food --Dolomites. More upscale --deluxe lodging and groomed runs--Switzerland. Just do it --I'm going to Aosta Valley in Italy this year---cost wise -about the same as a week in the USA --lift tickets are less.
