Has anyone been to Sitges (the resort town near Barcelona)? I will be in Barcelona for 3 days, coming from a month in Italy and I thought it might be nice to have a relaxing beach day. If anyone has spent time there please let me know what it is like, thanks!

Not sure when you are going, however, don't know if relaxing would be in the cards-- crowded with continental vacationers would be a better adjective.
Personally, I would check out the old city of Girona.

I spent a great week in Sitges back in the mid 60's...it was more of a sleepy village back then with a great beach....lately it is known as one of the premier gay resort beaches of Spain. I think you could enjoy a great day at the beach either here or north of Barcelona in the Costa Brava.

It is well known as a resort for gays. If that is off-putting head north of Barcelona. Pineda, Tossa da Mar, Calella etc. There is a coastal railway from Barcelona to Girona.

We loved Sitges, but we were there in late April/early May. I do think it could get very crowded in summer. If you do go, walk south to Sausalito beach (15-20 minute walk toward Hotel Terramar). This beach is under the small stone tower on the promenade. Bar Sausalito was our favorite spot!
