I am leaving for Paris in 3 weeks and I am VERY behind on my planning due to unforeseen circumstances. It would be so helpful if someone would help me group the following sights by their proximity to each other so that I can best plan my time. Thanks! Notre Dame Saint Chappelle Eiffel Tower Rue Cler Arch de Triomphe Louvre Musee d'Orsay Montmarte
Jardin des Tuileries
We visited Paris in June for about a week. I hope you have time to see all of this! Notre dame and st chappelle are very close, but beware of long lines for security at St Chappelle. The louvre and musee d'orsay and the jardin des Tuileries are near each other also. Eiffel tower and rue cler are near each other. Montmartre is north of most of these sights by a metro ride. Arc de triomphe is at the end of the Champs Élysées. We actually walked from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomphe through the Tuileries. It was great if you have the time and inclination, if not there are many metro stops along the way. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips!
you can check out the garden at the Musée Rodin...sort of in between the Orsay and the Eiffel Tower...only cost 1 euro- bargain! http://parisbytrain.com/ this site was good for train information I thought. I froze my butt off over there back in February and took the Metro all over. depending on how many museums you may visit- check this out too... http://en.parismuseumpass.com/
For souvenirs Montmartre had the best prices.
Notre Dame and St. Chappelle are near each other. I would get to St. Chappelle and opening time to tour it with minimum lines, then head across to Notre Dame and see it (should still be fairly uncrowded). This would be a good time to climb Notre Dame if that's what you want to do. Rue Cler isn't really a "sight", it's just where Rick Steves recommends staying in Paris. If you happen to have time, you can "tour" it when you're going to or coming from or to the Eiffel tower, which isn't really walking distance to any of your other sights. Lourve, Jardin des Tuileries, then Musee d'Orsay is a natural walking progression, but those are two huge museums and you might get "museum'ed out". I know I wouldn't want to visit both in the same day. However people do. Arc d'Triomphe isn't really near anything else on your list but it's easy enough to take the metro directly to it. Ditto for Montmarte. How many days do you have? If you had two I'd say:
Day 1: St. Chappelle, Notre Dame, explore Ile de Cite and Ill St. Louis. Lunch. Then a museum, either Orsay or Lourve. If you're going during a busy time it might be worth it to buy a museum pass to skip the lines. Day 2: Montmarte in the morning, metro to Arc de Triomphe. Lunch. Other museum. See Tuileries after the Lourve no matter which day you go. Dinner, and Eiffel Tower at night.
Sorry I do not know the name of the place. We went across a bridge over the River Seine and watch the Eiffle all lite up at night. There are a lot of buildings and the view was awesome.
Absolutely beautiful.
I think JB may be referring to the Trocadero.
