Hello. We will be in Sienna Italy on August 16th and intend to watch the Il Palio horse race. As of yet, we do not have balcony or Terrace tickets and intend to stand in the courtyard. Any advice?

Get there early,we were there about 1.5 hours early. Go to the part of the courtyard that's the highest, you'll see better. Take something to sit on and something to do while you're waiting. Take water, tho you can buy water there. Buy a scarf on the way there if you want to cheer for a specific palio. Go to the bathroom before you get there if you can cuz I'm not sure if there's a place once you get in the courtyard to go. It will most likely be very hot, dress accordingly. Take a camera, and binoculars if you don't mind carrying them. Have fun!! And afterwards it's lots of fun, especially if you can see the winning palio parading thru the streets, lots of yelling and singing.
