Side trip to Beaune - Rail and Accomodation Recommendations?

We've recently changed our trip plans to 7 days in Paris. We have been to Paris several times, so our focus is going to be on relaxing in the city and making some great day trips.

We'd like to see some of the wine country, and my research has indicated that Beaune is a lovely place that many people recommend. I'm looking for suggestions on which rail to take and where to stay.

Thank you in advance for ay tips you may have!

Burgundy is a pretty, rural part of France, best explored by car or bicycle, if you have the time. I spent eight days there 4 years ago.

If you are in a hurry friendly Beaune makes a nice taste of Burgundy. The wine scene and cuisine are justly famous.

Your questions are a bit hard for me to peg. There are some private rail companies in France, but not between Paris and Burgundy. If you take the train, it will be SNCF, almost certainly via Dijon. But you do not need to concern yourself with the route.

If you are taking a day trip, as you say, I do not think you will need a place to stay. If you are spending the night, I would stay in a hotel that suits your needs near or within the City walls, or, if you will have a car, in the countryside.

Danielle, Beaune is a wonderful town. My husband and I dream of finding a way to retire there! The last time we were there, we stayed at La Villa Fleurie, a Rick Steves recommendation. Have also stayed at the Hotel Beaune, but prefered La Villa Fleurie.

I agree with the hotel in Beaune. There is an early morning train from Paris straight to Beaune. I forget when, but we had a friend take it recently. Here are 2 other recommendations. When you get to the rail station in Beaune you can rent a car there for the day. There are some beautiful little villages north of Beaune that make a lovely drive which is easy and on lovely back roads. If you send me a PM I can tell you a lovely half or whole day drive. This is particularly nice in the Fall. The Burgundy canal is only about 30 minutes by car from Beaune . Another idea is to rent a car at Orly and drive down to Beaune- a nice drive in one day... and then return the car and come back to Paris by train.

Trains to Beaune depart from Gare de Lyon. There are direct TGVs to Beaune that depart at 06:58 and 16:58. At all other times you'll need to change trains in Dijon.
