Side/day trips from Nice, France

I am planning a trip to Nice for 2-3 days in early June 2010. I would like to take a day trip if possible, but will not have a car (train, bus for transportation only). What are some nice, relaxing places to go? Will I have enough time or should I just stick to Nice?

Thanks!

Villefrance, Cap Ferrat, Antibes. I'd choose the latter.

Eze-le-Village is a perched hilltop village between Nice and Monaco and is easily reachable by either bus #112 or bus #82. You'll get a panoramic view of the coastline. For bus timetables go here.

Be aware that this village is the most heavily visited one in France. Go early or late to avoid the tour bus crowds.

I agree with Ed's suggestions but my favorite is Cap Ferrat. Great place for a walk, sitting in a cafe, touring the Rothschild mansion and gardens. It's accessible by bus and Rick's Provence book has the details.

We loved Grasse, a 1 Euro trip each way, by bus.

There's enough to do in Nice for 2-3 days, but there are some great day trips that would be well worth a visit. My favourites are Eze, St Paul de Vence, Antibes, and Monaco/Monte Carlo.

I would recommend St-Paul-de-Vence and/or Vence (you can do both in one day by bus). Make sure you see the Matisse chapel in Vence.
