Flying into Zurich, have 4 days free, then need to take some type of train to Paris (staying 2 nights at friend's), then taking train back to Zurich. My husband will not go with me to Paris. Where would you go with so little travel time? Would enjoy any type of experience! Love scenery, historical stuff, local experiences, and all. Thank you!
Hi Heidi,
On the rail map it looks like it's about a 5 hour train trip between Zurich and Paris. I'd look at the map and try to determine places that might interest you. It it were me, I'd be inclined to spend 4 additional nights in Paris!
Another option for more variety would be to spend 2 nights in Bern, Switzerland and then 2 nights in Dijon.
In Zurich you're spitting distance (I think it's around 40 miles or so) from Lake Constance - Bodensee in German - and charming old towns, like Meersburg and Lindau; a lake steamer, an island famous for its gardens and greenhouses called Mainau. You could take the train into Konstanz. It's a border town on the lake, with a Swiss and German railway station near each other and walking distance from the downtown area. Konstanz is charming in itself, has a council house about 600 years old, a really funky modern fountain and an old cathedral. I stayed in a a very nice, moderately priced hotel right on the market square, with a great buffet breakfast and in easy walking distance to the sights.
