Short layover in Brussels

I have about 7 hours to kill (total layover is 9 hours - I'm giving myself 2 hours for unexpected events) in Brussels. Do I have time to do any sightseeing and what's the best way to get there from the Brussels airport? Other than the Grand Palace and Mannequin/Pi's, what else is there?

You have time visit the area around the Central Station/Grand Place. The airport train will take you direct to central station...there is a luggage hold counter. Also in the area is the world class National Art Museum, and lots of places to eat.

Thanks Michael. Is the luggage hold counter at the airport or central station? I'd like to just dump off the luggage in a locker somewhere in the airport.

I'm not sure if this question belongs in the forum or another, but does anyone know if the Brussels airport offers showers? My travels are two days and I'd like to freshen up a bit if I could.

The luggage hold counter is at central station...not sure if they have something like that at the airport.

I've never seen showers at the Brussels airport. And I know for a fact the train stations do not have them -and I wouldn't go near them if they did!

Also nearby, there's an interesting musical instrument museum in a beautiful Art Nouveau building. If you can figure out the Metro system (not as user-friendly as some other European cities), you can see virtually anything you want in Brussels.

We had a flight out of Brussels last fall and when we arrived at the airport three hours early for our 11:00 AM flight we were told that our plane was still at JFK and wouldn't leave Brussels until 5:00 PM.
So we went down to the train station which is right at the airport (bottom floor, I think). We had checked out big bags but still had carry-ons which we were able to check right at the airport. They have lockers which are actually outside the airport right on the sidewalk. I'm not sure of the level they were on but it was very easy.
We took the train to Brussels, walked all around and toured a beautiful cathedral. Finally found the Grand Place and then had a great lunch of moules and frites. We were so glad we did not sit at the airport all day. Brussels is beautiful and now we know we'd like to go back when we have more time.
