shore excursions from Baltic cruise

Is it worth the time and effort to go to Berlin, 3hrs each way from ship by train with about 6 hrs on the ground.

I agree, if you do not think that you will make it back to Berlin, then 6 hours is a nice amount of time int eh city. You will at least have some good viewing of Germany as you take the train!

If, however, you think that you may come back, then I would choose some sights closer to the port. However, Rostock/ Warnemunde (is that is your port) has precious little to see.

Personally we have found that long bus rides with shore excursions can be a real drag and we don't do them.

If it will be the one and only time you will ever get the chance to see Berlin, then yes, do it. Six hours used skillfully will give you a good peek at the city.

Hi Ron,
We did a Berlin by train excursion from Warnemunde cruise port in June (we did not think we would ever see Berlin again). All worked out wonderfully and we (8 in party) found the Hop on/off tour companies right outside the Berlin Hauptbahnhof. We saw all the main sights in the 6 hrs we were there.
As we did not want to pay the steeply priced excursion fees offered by the cruise line, We took a taxi from the cruise ship terminal to the train station in Warnemunde, then a direct train to Berlin. Our taxi driver quoted us a price for an all day excursion with him driving us anywhere we wanted to stop in Berlin. It was a good deal, but as we had already booked train passage from home, we went on the train.
The worst case scenario would be to miss the 4pm? train back to Warnemunde and the cruise ship go on without you. You could then book train passage on to the next port of call for the ship and catch up again.

Please note correction, the main train station to go to Berlin is Rostock, We took the taxi from Warnemunde to Rostock and the train from there. On the return back to the ship, we just changed trains in Rostock and rode to the cruise ship terminal in Warnemunde.
