what are the main shopping areas in Paris. My 17 year old niece wants to shop while in Paris at both high end and low end stores.
There are the department stores - Galerie Layfayette, Printemps, Bon Marche... And here's an article in France Today about the young designers of the Marais District:
http://www.francetoday.com/articles/2010/02/12/the-marais.html
There is also a link at the end of the article to a shoppong guide.
Low end is St Ouen and Champs Elysees and a thousand others.
Define high end: by appointment only and bring three pocketbooks?
Galeries Lafayette has departments that would qualify as high end unless your 17 year-old niece is an habitual haute couture customer, in which case a stroll along avenue Montaigne will offer, Chanel, YSL, Gucci, etc., and rue Faubourg St. Honoré is also world famous for couture houses. If she wants to try REALLY low end then maybe Tati would fit the requirement.
On the higher end
Colette - a mixture of everything including high end wears, with a bit of less expensive items as well, very Parisian, the link lists the location http://www.concierge.com/travelguide/paris/shopping/14037
Longchamp - almost every French girl her age and older has a Longchamp Pliage bag, they are my favourite and I highly recommend one as a souviner if she has the money. While the store in general is expensive the Pliage bags are more resonably priced.

Avenue montaigne is is great for window licking
Lower end
H&M - everywhere in Paris, while they have H&M in the US, the fashions tend to be a little edgier in Europe and I still stop in to shop at them even though we have the stores in my home town
Zara and Mango - similar to H&M, and are all over Paris
Thanks for all the info.
There are many trendy, moderately priced stores that your niece should love along the rue du Rivoli from the Marais area to the Louvre. For excellent low-moderate end shops with good styles, try Monoprix and Pomrod too - there are branches all over. The big department stores are also good. I like Le Bon Marche in St. Germain area -- where there are many other wonderful shops. The Marais area is good for shopping also. Really, virtually anywhere in Paris you will see great shops.
I LOVE ETAM on Rue de Rivoli. It has several floors and carries a lot of great stuff at good prices. It would appeal to a 17 year old.
