Seville, Cordoba, or neither?

I will be in the south of Spain visiting relatives in Tarifa (near Gibraltar) for three days as part of my 6 week long jaunt through Ireland, Spain, France, and London. My first thought was to go from there to Madrid. But now I am thinking about spending a day or so in either Cordoba or Seville, but I am not sure if it is worth it. I don't have much more time than 1 day or 1 and 1/2 days. I am considering skipping it to allow more time in my itinerary to breathe. For what it's worth, this will be my first time in Europe as an adult. Please advise, thanks.

Sevilla is the most amazing, dazzling place in Spain. You won't want to leave! Cordoba is full of quiet charms in comparison to Sevilla. Most of the sights are close together and can be done in one day or so. So it depends on whether you want to have too much to do or just enough.

Adrian,

Much as I love Seville, you already have a lot on your plate...I would spend the time elsewhere and reserve that for your next trip...you don't say where in the trip the Tarifa leg will fall...at the end, in the middle or at the end...depending on the sequence, you will be able to construct a logical and full schedule for your 6 weeks.

Adrian,
I concur with Bill that w/o your complete travel plan it's hard to suggest. You also leave out "minor details" like means o' travel - rental cars vs. public trans. And, like Jessica, I found Sevilla simply wonderful. Bottom line - go to Sevilla with a side trip to Arcos; skip Madrid. And, if she is still performing, take the Carmen walking tour of Sevilla; the one-woman walking show was a delight. Vaya con Dios. CraigSC

I agree with Jessica. Lots to do & see in Sevilla - you can easily spend a couple of days there. Cordoba is a delight to explore though the Mezquita didn't live up to my expectations. The private patios, lovely town square & manageable size make Cordoba a great town for walking. Absolutely loved Plaza de Espana at Sevilla - a pity it is not put to better use. The cathedral, Giralda Tower, the many gardens, the waterfront - everything is within a walking distance. Good luck!

Given the time you have I'd visit Cordoba. Everything is within easy walking distance. Go visit the Meczita, wander the old Jewish Quarter, and have a nice lunch and dinner somewhere.
