Sevilla to Granada by rental car anyone?

I have my Alhambra tickets booked and was planning on a day trip, by train, from Sevilla to Granada and back. Now I'm thinking about getting a car for at least a couple of days to see some of the other cities near Sevilla (on a different day than Granada...that's a whole day for sure I'm told). I've driven in Europe, but never in Spain. Any advice...has anyone drive Sevilla to Granada and what are the positives and negatives vs. the train? thanks!

You'll be on a four-lane divided highway the whole way between those two cities, so no worries about that. If you follow the A-92 into the city, you'll see signs posted to get to the Alhambra....you'll come at it from the back side, and end up at the parking lots near the main entrance.
Having the car will give you the flexibility to visit the white villages in the area. Just be aware that some of the roads will be quite twisty. Most are now well-paved with much better shoulders than in the past, but they still do wind around a bit.
Your biggest issue will probably be parking in Sevilla. The old quarter of the city is notoriously bad for driving....so make sure you talk to your hotel about parking availabilities, and a good route in and out of the hotel's location.
