Sevilla -Palm Sunday

We will be in Sevilla for several days prior to Holy Week. We were planning to take a train to Granada early on Palm Sunday morning but wonder if we should leave later in the day so we might see a bit of the procession. If we do this, not sure what to do with luggage. Does anyone know the time frame for the procession? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Let start by saying I have been to Sevilla but not during Semana Santa. But from what I have read, the processions go on for hours. MIT would be a shame to be right there and not see them, but there are logistical considerations. The later trains to Granada are at 4 and 6 pm. You might be able to leave your luggage at your hotel after checkout, but consider that it may be very difficult to move around the city while the processions are going on, so going back to pick up your luggage, and then getting to the train station, could be very difficult. If there are lockers at the train station ( which I don't know), maybe you could stow your luggage early and then walk to a procession route, and walk back to the station afterwards.

In October 2011 when we were in Seville we were lucky enough to witness one of their 'practice' events. When we stumbled upon the procession we asked if it was a 'Holy Day' and were told they were training for Easter. We couldn't believe how huge the platform and Statue were that they were carrying from what we gathered was on their heads.. There were teams of people all with some sort of head towel on and the same white shoes.. Once one popped underneath someone else stepped out and all we could see was the white shoes. They have to manoeuvre these very heavy and cumbersome floats through pretty narrow streets. We went on our merry way, had a leisurely dinner and bumped into the procession again about 3 hours later not what I would call desperately far from where we left it!
I would imagine that this event goes on for a long time, as for time of day, we saw this candlelit and at night, it might be worth checking into what time of day these processions happen, it could be that as it was just a regular weekend they did it at a time for least inconvenience of streets being closed off as the procession went by, or that the temperature is more conducive. Also of note was that although it was just a practice run the narrow streets were very crowded & full of locals, this wasn't an 'advertised event and there was hardly a tourist in site. We all commented that at Easter it must be Mayhem and quite a crush in places.

Thanks so much for replying. It appears there are indeed lockers at the train station so that seems to be the best option. I still have not located a time schedule but surely someone in Sevilla will help us out. I agree that it would be crazy not to at least catch a glimpse of the festivities before we leave. Again, many thanks - Pam
