I will be in Sevilla during Holy Week---April 1-7. My time is very limited. Besides a side, day trip (overnight) to La Alhambra/Granada, can anyone recommend anything to do outside Sevilla? I already know what I will be doing there in Sevilla. Is it worthwhile trying to get to Nerja, which is recommended by Rick?
Nerja's too far for a day trip....it's the other side of Malaga.
Other options for day-time trips would be Ronda, Cordoba, and the massive Roman ruins at Italica
We were in Sevilla during holy week in 2008, a wonderful experience and I'm not religious! Try to take a day tour to a few of the white, Andalusian hill towns. We took Paul McGrath's tour, recommended in Rick's Spain book. He was very informative, and also answered all kinds of questions on Spain for us. Make sure you see some of the middle of the night processions, and don't miss the Easter Sunday morning proc. On another note, make sure you phone your hotel a day or two ahead in Sevilla to let them know your time of arrival. Hotel reservations don't seem to mean much at this very busy time of year. We were warned about this by a travel agent friend. Fortunately for us we had our hotel in Madrid phone ahead to our Sevilla hotel (same chain)to re-confirm our res, and they had 'lost' one of our room res. After a lengthy angry conversation our hotel cleck had with the other hotel, we were given back the other room, which probably meant someone else was out a room!!
